Professional Background
Ms. Núñez founded Núñez Law Group in January of 2008 after withdrawing as a partner of Baker & McKenzie. In her more than 12 years as a partner of Baker & McKenzie, Ms. Núñez practiced in the firm’s global private client practice and, for most of those years, was a member of the Steering Committee that led that practice. She also served as chair of the North American private client practice for several years. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 1995, Ms. Núñez was a partner in the law firm of Gray, Cary, Ware and Freidenrich (formerly Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye and now DLA Piper). During the 8 years Ms. Núñez practiced at Gray Cary, she practiced in the firm’s estate planning department.
Practice Description
Ms. Núñez provides international tax and estate planning services to foreign and domestic clients of the firm and provides general tax and estate planning services to the firm’s United States clients. She also helps clients develop and implement global philanthropy plans and serves as consultant in family law, trusts and estates and other litigation matters involving international issues. Representative Clients, Cases or Matters
For more than twenty years, Ms. Núñez has represented clients who have varying degrees of contact with more than one country (investments, residence, family members, etc.) or who migrate or are considering migration from one jurisdiction to another. She has also represented private banks, and other professionals and institutions who serve such clients. Ms. Núñez advises individual clients on cross-border tax, estate planning and related issues and advises financial institutions and others who serve international clients on issues relating to the development of products and services that meet the needs of international clients and families.
Publications, Presentations and Articles
Ms. Núñez travels extensively and lectures frequently (in Europe, Asia, North America and Latin America) to professional and nonprofessional groups on international estate planning and tax issues. Ms. Núñez contributes to International Estate Planning books and publications and writes articles for industry and trade publications. Education & Bar Admittance
Ms. Núñez was born in Mexico City. In 1980, she came to San Diego where she completed her undergraduate education in Biology from San Diego State University (B.S., summa cum laude, 1983). She received her legal education at the University Of San Diego School Of Law (J.D. magna cum laude, 1987). Ms. Núñez is admitted to practice in California. She is fully bilingual and bicultural (Spanish/English).
